General Code of Conduct
At The Great Lace, we aim to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all of our community. To ensure that everyone has a positive experience, we expect everyone to adhere to the following code of conduct:
1. Respect Each Other:
- Treat all participants with kindness, courtesy, and respect, regardless of their age, gender, race, sexual orientation, gender presentation or expression, nationality, religion, or background.
- Refrain from engaging in any form of harassment, including but not limited to verbal, physical, or online harassment. Harassment includes offensive comments, unwelcome advances, and deliberate intimidation.
- Always ask for consent before taking photographs or videos of others.
2. Dress Code
- Dress in a manner that aligns with the theme of the event. The Great Lace is a formal Japanese fashion event. Attendees must wear some form of Japanese fashion such as but not limited to lolita, elegant gothic aristocrat, ouji fashion, decora, yumekawaii fashion, gyaru, etc. or appropriate formal-wear. Those not wearing any form of Japanese fashion must be accompanied by someone wearing Japanese fashion. Japanese or Western formal-wear is acceptable.
- Cosplay, costumes, or steampunk are not allowed at the event.
- Any attire intended provoke or offend is strictly prohibited at The Great Lace.
- In accordance with venue policy, weapons or items that look like realistic weapons are not allowed.
- All attire is subject to local laws
Those who do not adhere to the dress code will be refused admittance into the event without refund.
3. Ticketing
- Attendance to all event areas of The Great Lace requires a valid ticket. Counterfeit tickets are strictly prohibited.
- Refunds are not given for tickets but tickets are transferable. To transfer a ticket, please email info@frillinois.com with the current ticket holder’s full name and order number, as well as the transferred ticket holder’s full name. Frillinois recommends only buying tickets from those you know and cannot verify third-party sellers.
4. General
- Consumption of alcohol outside of 21+ events is prohibited. Attendees aged 21 and older may enjoy alcohol at the hotel bar. Please drink responsibly.
- While marijuana is legal in Illinois, we kindly request that attendees refrain from consuming it in any form on event premises. Your cooperation ensures a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Violation of any of these policies may result in removal from the event and premises without refund.
ADA and Accessibility Policies
We want all our attendees to be able to enjoy The Great Lace and are committed to providing an accessible experience. Upon request, we are able to provide accessible seating at events. The Palmer House is an accessible venue. We recommend utilizing Easy Access Chicago’s guide to the venue. Please e-mail info@frillinois.com if you have any questions regarding accessibility.
Photography and Videography Policies
By purchasing a ticket to any The Great Lace event, you consent to be photographed or filmed. If you do not wish to be filmed or photographed, please e-mail info@frillinois.com at least 48 prior to the event.
Vendor Room and Swap Meet
- Photography and video recording is permitted
- Be mindful of other attendees experience
- Always ask permission before photographing:
- Other attendees
- Vendor merchandise and displays – some vendors may not allow photography of their items
Fashion Show, Panels, and the Tea Party
- Photography and video recording is permitted
- Attendees must remain in their seats seat while taking photos/videos
- Be mindful of other attendees experience
- No flash photography please
Palmer House Public Spaces
The Palmer House hosts multiple events simultaneously, including weddings, corporate functions, and other special occasions. While attending The Great Lace and enjoying The Palmer House venue, please be mindful of others and remember to share the space.
Attendees will be permitted to take casual photos and videos for personal use and social media in the following locations:
- Hotel lobby
- Peacock doors
- Mezzanine level
- Empire stairs
When taking photos in public spaces:
- Keep your group size manageable
- Be aware of your surroundings
- Allow other attendees and hotel guests the opportunity to take turns in popular photo locations
- Yield to hotel guests and staff
- Move to a less crowded area if requested
- Avoid blocking pathways or doors
- Please do not enter any ballrooms not rented for our event
Professional Photography
A photography permit is required for any photography activities that involve:
- Tripods or external lighting
- Professional cameras
- Commercial/business use
- Payment for photography as a service
This permit system ensures that the Palmer House is able to:
- Manage space usage
- Protect their historic architecture
- Ensure all guests can enjoy the facilities
- Maintain their insurance requirements
